The Quick Guide to Buying a Curtain

Have you ever thought of buying a curtain? Let’s imagine you hate having sunlight in your house all the time in daylight. Every day you wake up, it’s not because of your alarm clock; it’s because of the sunlight coming out of the darkness and shining bright on you. Every night when everybody’s lights are on, you don’t like that other people can watch you from afar because all your windows are visible. They can see what you’re doing, and you can see what they’re doing vice versa. Sooner or later, you would say enough is enough.

You want privacy in your house, and that means buying a curtain. But there’s one question: Which kind of curtain will you buy? Every curtain differs from the rest, and it’s not choosing which one to buy. Not to mention, how would you want your curtain to be hung or how thick it should be?

Extensions of a Room

The kind of curtain that you would buy should be the type that’s appropriate to the room it’s in or the surroundings. So, it’s essential first to get curtains for places where you need them, such as the living room and the bedroom. Most people only buy cheap curtains at low bulk prices so they can be done with the problem of covering their windows. The problem is that no matter how well-designed a room is, if the curtain looks dull, the rest will look ugly.

Which Kind of Curtain?

The kind of curtain that you would buy should be the type that’s appropriate to the room it’s in or the surroundings. You don’t want to buy a curtain that starkly contrasts with the rest of the room, like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s best to think of the perfect curtains as an extension of a room. That’s why there are different kinds of curtains depending on what you want for a room.

  • Blackout Curtains – Thick dark curtains that are perfect if you want a dark room.
  • Sheer Curtains / Roller Blinds – If you value privacy.
  • Roller Blinds – If you don’t want a curtain that takes up too much space.

Which Heading Do You Want?

The central part of a curtain hangs on a curtain rod. Headings are like ribbons based on many heading designs with a name for each one for reference: pinch pleat, inverted pleat, euro pleat, twin or triple pleat, or the wave. Choosing any heading patterns will help you determine what kind of curtain you want for your house.

Which Fabric for Your Curtain?

Curtains are made from different kinds of fabrics. The most common ones are cotton, silk, linen, polyester, and velvet. Choosing a material is essential for your decision to buy a curtain. Most fabrics can fit both roman blinds and curtains. Velvet isn’t recommended for roman blinds as the blinds will crush or fold the fabric. Meanwhile, linen will look much better than roman blinds or regular curtains. Cotton gives your curtain a crisp and formal look.
